Vietnam Memorial

After talking about the creation  and history of  the Vietnam Memorial in class I came across this image on the internet.  Not only one can get a great appreciation for this monument by just being there but also one could take a piece of it home. I have personally not been there before but by hearing some people in class that have had a chance to be there in person talk about their experiences I get the sense that this is a place of respect and remembrance.
I find this image very powerful not only because of the amount of names on the wall, but seeing a kid making a copy of the name of possibly a grandparent or relative that might have served in the Vietnam War.
This picture is directly tying generations together by allowing the people that visit the memorial to take the name of the fallen soldier home.

  1. That's a good catch. I wonder if that's a grandparent or a parent. Either way, it does not make a much difference as far as the point you are making is concerned. Did you know where the idea of making a rubbing comes from? If not, look it up. It's an interesting history.
